HARRISBURG  –  May 1, 2012 –   State Sen. Tim Solobay today congratulated Central Greene School District for its success in a competitive statewide grant program.

The district was one of only 58 Pennsylvania school districts to win a Keystones to Opportunity (KtO)Grant.

“The team at Central Greene School District worked together to create an impressive plan,” Solobay said. “In a competitive world, it’s good to know that school districts are ready to compete and innovate.”

The district will receive $435,379 to create a comprehensive program aimed at improving literacy from infancy to 12th grade.  The money comes from the federal government and is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

“We are excited about this opportunity and recognize the impact that KtO will have on our students and our community,” said Annette J. Vietmeier, director of curriculum, instruction and technology in the district.  “There are 25 members of the official KtO District Team, but we have an outstanding staff and they have provided input through school-based teams and curriculum councils and together we have been successful.”

The district’s plan embeds ongoing professional development and support for teachers and administrators, assessments, resources, parent engagement activities along with supports and interventions for struggling students.
