January 23, 2013: The group “PA Responsible Citizens” held a rally on the steps of the state Capitol in Harrisburg to oppose any new gun laws. Speakers told the group of about 200 people who gathered in the cold that they preferred to see enforcement of gun laws already on the books. They invoked the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guaranteeing the right to bear arms and a clause in the Pennsylvania Constitution saying the right of citizens to bear arms “shall not be questioned.” Senator Solobay addressed the crowd, saying the state and nation should provide more help for those with mental and emotional problems and leave responsible gun owners alone.gun-rights-rally-sen.solobay-01-23-13

Corbett and state leaders told municipal and county officials today as they announced that more than $204 million is coming their way as a result of the Marcellus Shale impact fee. July 10, 2012: Western Pennsylvania motorists will continue to pay higher gasoline prices this summer after House Republicans watered-down legislation that would have allowed the state to ask the federal Environmental Protection Agency for a waiver from the summer blend requirement. Senator Solobay says he’s disappointed the governor signed the bill into law but he won’t give up the fight.

June 19, 2012: Senator Solobay speaks on the Senate Floor in support of legislation that honors fallen police officer John David Dryer. House Bill 2215 designates the interchange at the intersection of Route 136 and I-70 as the Officer John David Dryer Memorial Interchange. The 46-year old police officer for East Washington Borough was shot and killed in the line of duty last December during a traffice stop. The bill now goes to Gov. Corbett for his signature.

February 6, 2012: The governor has signed a new law that would increase the prize limits on small games of chance used as fundraisers by local organizations and groups. Sen. Solobay has been working on this legislation since 2007 and says he’s happy to see it finally become law.
January 26, 2012: For the first time in 50 years, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has ordered the Legislative Reapportionment Commission to fix its state House and Senate redistricting plans. Senator Solobay says the decision is a victory for the voters of Pennsylvania.

January 19, 2012: Senator Solobay is proposing legislation in Harrisburg that would deal with the high cost of a special blend of gasoline that drivers in the Pittsburgh region are required to use during the summer months.

January 18, 2012: A unanimous state Senate today honored the lifetime community service of slain East Washington Police Officer John David Dryer, who was killed in the line of duty Dec. 19, during a traffic stop on Interstate 70/79.

October 25, 2011: The Pennsylvania Disabled American Veterans Hospital Transportation Network received 14 new vans this week as a result of funding provided by the state. During the past year, 280 DAV volunteer drivers provided more than 50 thousand rides to veterans so they could receive much needed medical care.
October 24, 2011: The state Senate Transportation Committee has sent a bill sponsored by Senator Solobay to the full Senate for a vote. The bill would remove a costly mandate from local police departments.
October 6, 2011: Senate Judiciary Committee approves Senator Solobay’s bill that would allow for the expungement of convictions for minor offenses committed by people who were young and who have been crime free for at least seven years.
