| Washington to Receive Recycling Performance Grant |
HARRISBURG – Jan. 31, 2012 – The City of Washington will receive nearly $10,000 for its recycling efforts, state Sen. Tim Solobay and state Rep. Brandon Neuman announced today. The grant, from the Department of Environmental Protection’s Recycling Performance Grant Program, is based on more than 1,000 tons recycled in the city for calendar year 2008. The program is intended to encourage communities to develop and maintain recycling programs. |

HARRISBURG – Jan. 31, 2012 – The Middle Monongahela Industrial Development Association will receive $600,000 in state aid to continue development at Alta Vista Business Park and the economic recovery of the Mon Valley, state Sen. Tim Solobay and state Rep. Peter J. Daley announced today. “The natural gas industry has brought opportunity to the region, but tremendous cooperation at all levels of government has allowed us to take full advantage of that opportunity,” Solobay said. |
| Solobay Supports Infrastructure Improvements, Consumer Protections |
HARRISBURG – Jan. 26, 2012 – State Sen. Tim Solobay voted yesterday to pass legislation that will help replace aging utility infrastructure in Pennsylvania while protecting consumers from costly rate hikes. Under current law, utilities have the authority to recover costs for necessary construction work through expensive and time-consuming general rate cases. House Bill 1294 will allow utilities to instead gradually recover infrastructure investment costs through a capped Distribution System Improvement Charge (DSIC). |

HARRISBURG – Jan. 25, 2012 – The Carroll Township Authority has been approved for a grant and a low-interest loan to make repairs to aging sewer lines, state Sen. Tim Solobay and state Rep. Peter J. Daley announced today. More than 18,000 feet of sewer line will be upgraded during the $1 million project. |
| Solobay, Vogel Announce Gasoline Consumer Legislation |
HARRISBURG – Jan. 19, 2012 – Senator Elder Vogel and Senator Tim Solobay today announced legislation designed to make gasoline cheaper for western Pennsylvanians. Specifically, the legislation would remove a costly and burdensome regulation requiring a special “boutique” blend of gasoline from being sold in the seven county Pittsburgh-area of Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland counties during the summer months. This “summer gas” is routinely more expensive than gasoline sold in the rest of Pennsylvania and also in neighboring Ohio and West Virginia. |

Bill DeWeese to discuss ways to prepare today’s young students for careers in the burgeoning energy exploration industry. Solobay and DeWeese invited industry representatives to meet with teachers and school counselors for a summit on education strategies in a new economy hosted by the Greene County Career and Technology Center in Waynesburg. |
| Solobay Urges Grant Awardees to Complete Agreements |
HARRISBURG – Jan. 9, 2012 – Nearly $25 million is on its way to volunteer fire companies and ambulance services across Pennsylvania, but only if the organizations finish the paperwork, state Sen. Tim Solobay said today. The grants have been approved to help first responder organizations buy new equipment, make repairs to existing equipment, pay off debts or provide training and certification. However, the money will not be released until the organizations complete a Grant Agreement Form and send it to the state Office of the Fire Commissioner. |

Sen. Solobay joined Gov. Tom Corbett for a ceremonial signing of Senate Bill 566 as Act 102 of 2011. The bill renames the Route 1077 bridge over the Monongahela to the “Stan the Man Musial” Bridge. The bill goes into effect on Jan. 8, 2012. |
